About

Cultural Preservation is Our Mission

The Huichol Foundation is committed to preserving and promoting the Huichol people (VIRARICA) and their indigenous lifestyle, culture, and traditions. Our mission is to support, sustain and inspire the Huichol culture, within Huichol villages and around the globe. Support for cultural, environmental, and economic survival forms the basis for all Huichol Foundation projects.

For over 30 years, founding members of the The Huichol Foundation have dedicated themselves to creating real and meaningful impact. Now, we are garnering funding for larger scale projects that impact the entire Huichol tribe.  We are strengthening our support of the traditional arts, integrated public schools, and educational sponsorships, while expanding a host of new projects.

With your help in expanding Huichol Foundation initiatives, we aim to create long-term stability within the Huichol culture.

Focused Funding

Targeted avenues of support = comprehensive sustainability

Our approach to charity can be linked to five primary pillars of support, which together make up the foundation of our comprehensive strategy.  We have implemented Focused Funding to champion the health, education, culture, art, and environment of the Huichol people.  Through our contributions to these five vital values of Huichol life, an organic infrastructure is created in which the traditional bedrock of the culture remains intact.

Our multi-faceted approach creates integral stability

Ensuring a balanced approach to the assistance we provide is critical to creating sustainable impact.  If only a particular aspect of Huichol heritage is supported, the cultural foundations will begin to crumble.  Focused Funding requires that we support more than a single aspect of Huichol life, creating a self-imposed system of checks and balances that certifies the preservation of the culture as a whole.

Projects with local and global impact

In order to effectively sustain our value-based objectives we manage and an array of projects.  Our projects reside both in Huichol villages and around the globe, therefore contributing to local and global impact.  Projects secure quality education, provide environmental protection and utilize artistry in the development of a sustainable economic structure.  Each project is deliberately designed to have local and global impact, in addition to immediate and longterm effectivity.

Growing our Impact

The Huichol Foundation is garnering funding for larger scale projects that impact the entire Huichol tribe.  We are strengthening our support of the traditional arts, integrated public schools, and educational sponsorships, while expanding a host of new projects.

A Tribe. A Family.

Brant Secunda completed a twelve year apprenticeship with the late Don José Matsuwa in 1978 to become a shaman and ceremonial leader in the Huichol Indian tradition. Vision of the Future

Just as the Huichol view themselves as stewards of the Earth, the Huichol Foundation aims to be a helping hand for the Huichol – assisting them in preserving their traditions, language and land.  Synergistic approaches to preserving and empowering indigenous stewardship in the Huichol territory creates a cycle of both cultural and environmental conservation.  The Huichol are a jewel of the pre-Columbian traditions in North America, still living sustainably on the Earth.  Contemporary society must realize the capacity of modernized communities to assist in the preservation of the Huichol’s ancient way of life. Our projects are ambitious, but with your help the Huichol Foundation can achieve these dreams.  Join us in cultivating the support and inspiration necessary to save the Huichol culture.
